Appliance Electricity Cost Guide

Appliance cost is mostly a kilowatt-hour problem: power draw multiplied by time and electricity rate.

The basic formula

Daily kWh equals watts divided by 1,000, multiplied by daily hours. Daily cost equals daily kWh multiplied by your electricity price per kWh.

Why estimates differ

Variable power: refrigerators, AC units, and washing machines cycle instead of drawing rated wattage constantly.

Tariffs: utility bills may include tiers, taxes, fixed charges, time-of-use rates, and fuel adjustments.

Standby load: small always-on loads can matter when many devices stay plugged in all month.

Use the calculator

Compare appliance presets or enter the wattage from your device label.
